Heather Brewer At Your School!!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

We were so excited last year that Heather Brewer joined us for our Book Battle.  And when she said she will be back again this year, we were thrilled.  But we have a treat even better than her coming to our battle....which is very cool in itself.

The Pattonville School District Area-Wide Book Battle Committee is pleased to announce......

The Grand Prize for the First Place school
at the 2010 Area-Wide Book Battle
is a visit by Heather Brewer to their school.

This complimentary visit will be coordinated by Heather's agent at the time of your choice during the week of May 17-21, 2010.

To help show our appreciation for Ms. Brewer's generous prize donation, she asked that we watch her website for local appearances and information about the release of her new book, 11th Grade Burns.  www.heatherbrewer.com

Here is what is on her site at the time of my writing.  Doors open at 6 p.m. for the St. Louis County Library appearance.

Meeting of the Minds/It's Question Time!

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Next week, the book battle committee will be meeting to finalize the questions for this year's competition. This is an interesting evening, where after feeding our faces, we go through all the questions that members have complied, and decide which questions we should choose. Since each member writes between five to seven questions per book, we always have several questions left over.  Some of the left over questions are then sent to each school to use for practice.

In addition to the practice questions, beginning February 1, 2010, and every Monday until the competition, I will be posting a new questions here. This will give your team an opportunity to stop by and leave an answer in the form of a comment. All comments will remain hidden. On Friday, I will post the correct answer and a list all the teams who got the correct answer. On the day of the Book Battle the school posting the most winning comments will be recognized. Hopefully, this will be a great way to ready your students for the battle by  encouraging more participation.

When you leave a comment, you will have to create a Google account. Make sure you do this using your school's name. Feel free to upload picture a your school mascot, icon, photo, or avatar to represent the school. I will announce the winning post on Tuesday morning, and I will also recognize each school who answered correctly. Remember to include in your answer the book's full title as it appears on the Book Battle List and the author's full name.
